THE Airborne Angler
Our partner, The Airborne Angler, is on a unique mission to keep ice fishermen safe on Saginaw Bay, especially during unusually warm winter seasons. Martin Szeliga, known as the “Airborne Angler,” combines his love for fishing, flying, and community advocacy by providing a bird’s-eye view of the bay's ice conditions. As a Bay County pilot and Marine Corps veteran, Szeliga flies over the bay in a small aircraft, capturing photos and videos that offer anglers a real-time look at the ice. Through his popular Facebook page and YouTube channel, he shares these updates, giving fishermen an invaluable tool to assess ice safety and plan their fishing trips. While Szeliga’s work helps many anglers, he emphasizes that his images are just one of many tools fishermen should use for safety.
